Baycol
Baycol is a cholesterol-lowering drug belonging to a class of drugs known as "statins". It is prescribed to reduce cholesterol and to reduce risk of heart disease.
The food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved Baycol in 1997. However, on August 8, 2001, FDA announced that Bayer Pharmaceutical Division was voluntarily withdrawing Baycol (cerivastatin) from the U.S. market after 52 deaths were linked to the use of Baycol. These deaths were resulted from a muscle disease called rhabdomyolysis and kidney failure.
